Wyoming was admitted as the 44th state on 10 July 1890. When a new state was admitted, the new US flag containing the star for that state did not become official until the following 4th of July. Since Wyoming was admitted six days too late, the 44-star flag did not become official until 4 July 1891, and remained the official US flag for five years until the official adoption of the flag bearing the 45th star for Utah.
